If the film “Vivre la Nuit” by Marcel Camus remains locked in historic limbo, the fact remains that its sumptuous original soundtrack remains on the wanted list of a flurry of collectors, desperately hoping to get their hands on a copy one day. The perfect example of a sixties score, doped with rhythm'n'blues and mod-ern sounds, this record is a little gem, perfectly coherent and with a perfect goal. Under the unbridled musical direction of a Claude Bolling at the height of his pop phase parade dazzling manifestations of soul (“Heart and Soul”), a handful of amphetamine drugged jerks (the unforgettable “Make Love Number One” and the incredible “Get that Feelin' interpreted by Gerry Beckles), elegant jazzy instrumentals, and the opulent baroque ballad “Voici le Jour” haunted by Danielle Licari's diaphanous voice which leads the record to a magnificent end. We come away from listening to this record as after a sleepless night partying: tired but happy, eyes shining, with bass lines, guitars and organs ringing in our ears. Finally making this essential record accessible, this vibrant example of the musical waves at the end of the sixties, was long overdue.
